According to RAIN RFID Alliance, by the end of 2021, over 112 billion RAIN RFID tags will be deployed. The explosion in demand for sensing and tracking solutions will see this number grow even faster. We are the leading provider of RAIN RFID & NFC measurement, testing, and encoding solutions for tag design and production.
The RAIN RFID market has been growing nicely throughout the latest years. The latest news is that last year a total of 15.4 billion RAIN ICs were sold – and we are nicely on track for more than 20 billion in 2020. At the same time, the market penetration is still very low.
RAIN can use the GS1 UHF Gen2 protocol which ISO/IEC has standardized as 18000-63. The word RAIN—an acronym derived from RAdio frequency IdentificatioN—is intended as a nod to the link between UHF RFID and the cloud, where RFID-based data can be stored, managed, and shared via the Internet.
This thesis presents RAdio frequency IdentificatioN (RAIN), a wireless technology that uses radio waves to identify, communicate and track objects. The goal of this thesis work was to introduce to wireless temperature sensor network with RAIN technology. These new features ease the adoption of RFID especially in application areas where the tag carries more information than only its identification. Let’s have a more detailed look at one new key feature of Gen2v2: authentication.
