These newer fingerprint readers lack the PoA feature (power on authentification), but they are much more accurate and almost never fail to register a swipe. So I would definitely recommend getting the FP-reader on newer ThinkPads - its a neat feature, eliminates the need to type in passwords. I do not have one of these machines, but if they can be ordered with a Smart Card reader, chances are good that the jack to plug it in is already on the mother board and all you will need to do is buy the card reader, and possibly do a little inside carving on the underside of . Looking for a laptop for work purposes which requires a built in smart card reader. I had a look a Dell Latitude but they look bulky.
